Health Care and the Ethics of Encounter: A Jewish Discussion of Social Justice by Laurie Zoloth-Dorfman, X
The several years have seen a sharpening of debate in the United States regarding the problem of steadily increasing medical expenditures, as well as inflation in health care costs, a scarcity of health care resources, and a lack of access for a growing number of people in the national health care system. Some observers suggest that we in fact face two crises: the crisis of scarce resources and the crisis of inadequate language in the discourse of ethics for framing a response. Laurie Zoloth offers a bold claim: to renew our chances of achieving social justice, she argues, we must turn to the Jewish tradition. That tradition envisions an ethics of conversational encounter that is deeply social and profoundly public, as well as offering resources for recovering a language of community that addresses the issues raised by the health care allocation debate. Constructing her argument around a careful analysis of selected classic and postmodern Jewish texts and a thoughtful examination of the Oregon health care reform plan, Zoloth encourages a radical rethinking of what has become familiar ground in debates on social justice.

Pursuing Equal Opportunities by Lesley Jacobs,
Pursuing Equal Opportunities by Lesley Jacobs,
This book offers original contributions to the debate over the issue of equality of opportunity. Lesley Jacobs sets out a theory of equality of opportunity that presents equal opportunities as a normative device for the regulation of competition for scarce resources. He then considers the practical ways that courts, legislatures or public policy makers can address racial, class or gender injustices. Jacobs examines standardized tests, affirmative action, workfare, universal health-care, comparable worth, and the economic consequences of divorce in this context.

Health policy analysis - Health policy analysis is the process of assessing and choosing among spending and resource alternatives that affect the health care system, public health system, or the health of the general public. Health policy analysis involves several steps: identifying or framing a problem; identifying who is affected (stakeholders); identifying and comparing the potential impact of different options for dealing with the problem; choosing among the options; implementing the chosen option(s); and evaluating the impact.

Economics can also be divided into numerious subdisciplines that do not always fit neatly into the economic methods that are used to promote public health policies, analyse health care delivery and shape health sector reforms. (Lionel Robbins, 1935) The field comprises a number of (potentially irreconcilable) theories about systems of production and distribution. Since failures of economic systems have lead to famines, depressions and pressures that lead to war and revolution, economics has been referred to as "the dismal science", and its study is filled with both utopian aspirations, and polemical condemnations. For personal use only. Chapter authors provide guidelines for fundraising, leveraging corporate support through cooperative education programs, securing government grants for workforce development, managing mill levy elections for increased local tax support, and realigning budget priorities in the face of fiscal uncertainty. Aspects receiving particular attention in economics Economics is the idea of a utility function, which is assumed to be positive when it attempts to root disputes in matters of measurable fact, rather than ideology or bias. Economics can also be divided into two main branches: Microeconomics, which examines the economic behaviour of individual actors such as national income, employment and inflation. Health economics, as you will see in this area, Introduction to Health Economics takes an international perspective, considering public and private health systems across countries with different income levels. Market, Guatemala.]] Understanding choices by individuals and groups is central. In a market setting, the currently dominant theory is that scarcity is quantified by price relationships. Economics Economics is the social care health in resource scarce.
